Just curious on your thoughts on Gabardine wool suits vs. just wool suits. How does it affect the look and quality?

Isn't gabardine a worsted wool in a tight weave?

It's just a super tightly woven twill. Noticeably different looking than regular twill. The yarn for the original Burberry gabardine was also waterproofed.

Is there a term for a worsted wool not woven in any kind of pattern? Is it just called a plain weave?

The yarns of a plain weave are at 90 degree angle. Also called a panama weave.

gabardine has a twill weave and a true gabardine has the same twill pattern on the face and the back side. Cheap, pseudo gabardine shows the twill pattern only on the face side of the cloth and not on the back of the cloth

Just made up a lightweight 370gram air force blue gabardine wool suit from Gorina, Spain.

Reminds me a lot of its cousin Whipcord. Sadly heavier garbardine is not made

I recall reading somewhere that gaberdine weave will shine much quicker than a regular weave.
