This is for Fuuma, and anyone else who is interested.
Go see David Rodriguez of Casa Rodriguez on Stanton Street on the Lower East Side.
The guy is a design genius and fantastic craftsman who makes incredible hats. They are hand made, to order if you want, with great craftsmanship and fantastic combination of design sense and creativity.
I was just there yesterday. My younger daughter needed a hat we bought for her last summer re-sized, which he did. I also bought her a new one for the winter. The new one is made with a large-scale brown herringbone and the way he used the hat pattern and the fabric together is brilliant. He wanted to cut the bill down for her, since it was made with an adult sized face in mind, but she and her sister wanted it to stay as is.
He has some great men's caps (he doesn't do blocked felt, so I am calling them hats, though some are structured and shaped like a trilby). Winter designs include some derivatives of the lozenge shaped U.S. Army infantry hat in cool tweeds as well as some weird offspring of what Tom Landry might have worn.
He is fairly pricey, but you are getting something that is individually made with skill and intelligence. They are not overpriced, just expensive - a big difference.
I usually have to dull down what I get for myself, but you may not have that problem.
