Functional Cufflinks Sewn shut...?

Newbie question likely, but I just received a Piombo SC off Yoox with "functional cufflinks". I put this is quotes, as the cuff holes are sewn shut. Do functional cufflink jackets typically come this way (in case the customer does not want the links to open)? It appears that a tailor could easily just cut the threading, but I wanted to make sure this was the intended design before I went that route.

Most of the blazers and sports coats on Yoox are listed as having "buttoned cuffs" -- although that seems to mean non functional buttonholes in the vast majority of cases (which is normal; Yoox just uses weird/non-specific wording). I'm guessing your SC falls into this category, i.e., non functional, faux buttonholes. This is generally a good thing, since it makes the length of the sleeves very easy for your tailor to alter.

I'm not sure if it's possible to turn faux buttonholes into real holes (I've never heard of it)... someone else might want to chime in on that question.

I think you are describing fake buttonholes on a suit or sportcoat. No you can not just cut them open. I pay about $125 for functional handsewn buttonholes and buttons on a suit jacket.

Thanks for the responses - Just to clarify, this blazer includes actual slits (which are sewn shut) that look like functional cuffs (not just buttons, like my other blazers without functional cuffs). I'm gathering from this that some designers use the pseudo-functional-cuff design as a stylistic detail...?

Are they sewn shut with just a loose couple of stiches? Probably in a X shape across the button hole.

If so - then these are just basting stitches used to keep the button holes flat and aligned until the jacket is sold, and yes they can be removed.

Do they look like this in the back? (These were sewn closed when I bought the suit.)

No they are sewn to look this way if you cut them open you are ruining the garment.
