Does anyone wear a full width tie (3"+) with slim suits and narrow lapels? I like thin ties, but I get tired of them soon. I like to wear some of m fuller width ties with my Black Label every once and a while and it doesn't seem strange to me.

I have TaT suits and one of my favorite ties to wear is a RLPL tie which is 3.5" (i think) I think it looks fine, IMO. I'll try to find a picture and post it later... You'll have to excuse the messy nature of the outfit....this was taken after a long night out...

An important thing to notice is the lapel size, if the lapels are very skinny then I would not.

In my opinion, 3 inches would be ok, but anything more might look out of place.

Tie width is related to lapel width.

I prefer the tie and lapel widths to be similar; however, as Doc has shown, different widths can often look nice, too.

I like the look. Makes me feel like the tie is framed... makes it stand out a bit more.

Just to point out a major difference between the two looks (Docs and Padrons.) In Docs suit the high button stance doesnt give enough visibility to the tie to show the discrepancy betwen the narrow lapel and the wide tie. You see the narrow lapels and the tie gives a splash of color and thats it. By the time the tie widens to its fullest its hidden behind the jacket. In Padron's tie and lapel the low stance of the buttons on the jacket shows alot of the length of the tie and allows for the disparity between the thickness of the tie (width) and the lapel to be seen clearly.

In the last two photos, the strongly colored ties divert attention from the lapels.

Skinny tie with regular cut suit? It usually looks bad.
