Where do I get durable vegetable tanned full grain belts, in a minimalist design for under $50?

You can get close with Sole Survivor. I still wear the two I bought eight years ago every day. They're still going. There's probably not a better value in fashion than a reasonably priced full grain leather belt.

You can strike gold with high Street brands on occasion like this one from next. The brass has worn beautifully and cost like £20.

it is slightly above my budget, and the description doesn't say whether it's full grain or not, just 'vegetable-tanned' - like this: https://www.solesurvivorleather.com/knoxville-iii-jean-belt/

any other suggestions welcome too!

You can get lucky at TK Maxx / TJ Maxx. I always check out their belt section, and have found some steals.

The British Belt Co. had a sale on Massdrop recently. I picked up a brown and a black dress belt for $105.60 Canadian. I look forward to receiving them, at which time I can offer a review.

One interesting option is to make your own belts. Buckles and leather blanks are fairly inexpensive. You just need to do the dying and hole punching yourself.

How's the review? :)

I'd check eBay for vintage, made in the US belts from brands like Trafalgar, Martin Dingman, Cole Haan, Tiffany, and Coach. Should be easy to find for $25-50, shipped.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
