I just bought these Grenson Masterpieces by mail from a shop in England. I gambled on the size, and to my intense disappointment they don't fit. They're beautiful shoes, so I hope I can find a buyer here to finance my search for similar in a size larger.

The shoes are semi-brogues in cognac. I'm not certain of the model name, though I saw what looked to me to be the same shoe described in another thread as the Berkeley. They are marked as 8 UK size and 8.5 US size, though in my experience UK 8 equates to somewhere between 8.5 and 9 in US sizing. Width is UK F - medium.

I'm looking for $250 plus whatever the shipping costs might be (I'm an amateur when it comes to selling, so can only guess at what that would come to). (Full retail is in the $600+ range, I believe).

I'm posting at work so can't add photos right now, but will endeavour to work out how to do that when I get home.

what, exactly was wrong with the fit? Do you have a standard you can compare against (a common one would be your AE Park Ave size, as most everyone on here seems to own that shoe)?

yeah, gotta drop a full size for grenson masterpiece from standard US sizing, at least in my experience.

my AE's (don't own the Park Avenue, though*), Polo's and BB Peals are mostly 10.5D. My sole Grenson Masterpiece is a 9.5F, and it feels like a US 10.5D+ (somewhere between a D and a E). (My sole EG RLPL is a 10/10.5D in the 89 last, and fits well).

I do have one Grenson Footmaster at 10E UK, but I always wear an insertable insole with it to take up the room.

*Edit: (my AE's are almost all on the 1, 4, 7 and old 8 lasts)

Please confirm.......the Grenson's are too small for you and you expected a larger fit based on the common wisdom of dropping a size.....this what you mean? Do you ordinarily wear a size 9 US?

I'm interested but I also wear a US 9. My pair of Masterpiece is 8.5UK/9D US....while my two other Grenson's (non Masterpiece) are 8FX....both with a wee bit longer footbed than 9US.

Please post photos and if you can please measure sole length and width.

The problem with the fit is that I'm generally a UK size 8.5, but optimistically hoped I could squeeze into these size 8s. I'm afraid I don't have any experience with AEs to use as a comparison, but I'll make some actual measurements and post those. I suspect they fit pretty much like an average UK size 8, equating to a snug-ish US size 9.

I most usually wear US size 9.5, though I have a couple of pairs of 9s too. A recent purchase of a pair of Loakes in a UK size 8.5, which fit ok but slightly on the roomy side, made me hope that I might be ok with the Grensons in a UK size 8. However, they clearly don't run as big as the Loakes.

I'll take some measurements of the Grensons and post them.
