I've remeasured the Canali's pants as 38" around (with a tape measure) and as stated, 18.5" straight across when laid flat. There is about 2" to let out. I would estimate there's another 1" or so to let out the sleeve length in either jacket as well.

Answering some questions:

The Canali has fairly structured shoulders, with a moderate amount of padding, while the Brant has fairly lightly padded shoulders.

I would say both jackets are pretty standard sizing for a 44R, neither slim not generously sized.
