Friend just told me he has Stage 4 Lung Cancer

lung cancer is one of the scariest cancers to receive. once detected (early or not) probability to survive the cancer is only 5% (data from the nineties, i dont know if this has changed though due to advances in research).

Real talk: This stuff scares the **** out of me. I'm not scared by a lot of things - physical confrontation and dangerous situations, career, all that might cause me to worry, but I figure that I can deal with it. But this, this scares me to the point where I am don't really want to be around it, not because I think I'll catch it or something, but because it makes me have to think about it, especially now that I have kids.
I think that as a good friend, it would be good to stay in close touch and offer support, but I'm realizing more and more that it takes a lot of strength and endurance to do that.

Recently I have heard from a wide range of people of all ages that are facing something disabling or fatal. It reminds me of just how fragile life can be.
