Very sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, I've lost a few friends lately due to this and other forms of cancer.

Real talk: This stuff scares the **** out of me. I'm not scared by a lot of things - physical confrontation and dangerous situations, career, all that might cause me to worry, but I figure that I can deal with it. But this, this scares me to the point where I am don't really want to be around it, not because I think I'll catch it or something, but because it makes me have to think about it, especially now that I have kids.

I think that as a good friend, it would be good to stay in close touch and offer support, but I'm realizing more and more that it takes a lot of strength and endurance to do that.

It is always shocking and scary to hear this type of news.

Recently I have heard from a wide range of people of all ages that are facing something disabling or fatal. It reminds me of just how fragile life can be.

I hope he and his family and friends can come to terms with this soon, if they haven't.

Sorry to hear about this. It must be frustrating that your friend now lives further away. A shame that approx. 90% of lung cancer is preventable.
