Blue Note is a treasure trove for covers. This is a great album as well. You should do something with it. You could be one of the other band members...

i think it is a great idea DT, but don't you think that , à la SW&D challenge, you should let it run longer (like a month )?
It is more difficult than an usual challenge IMO, and more time taking…
    Just my two cents.
I will try to be in if i have the time...

I would be completely remiss if I didn't add possibly the seminal album cover of the seminal album of the seminal band of my generation:

And from an earlier, grittier, album:

I agree and I was contemplating a longer deadline. But in my experience the challenges tend to be forgotten if you leave too much time. I will try to do a stock take mid next week. If there are few entries then I will extend the deadline.

I have seen from some of your posts that you are a music connoisseur, you should definitely do something! France just lost one of the giants, maybe that could be an option? I had the pleasure to hear him in Geneva just a few years ago. He was surprisingly good given his age.

Indeed. He was kind of institution here ! But growing up with an older brother listening to 60s Rock, a sister 70s Pop, and myself being a teenager in the 80s… :)

Re: Michelangeli, on the classical end my favourite covers are by Mravinsky and Celibidache. But a good portion of that is their respective faces and expressions. Not sure how easy it'd be to carry across.

Ok you sure know how to rouse me up because he's got my posé but in completely different outfit. I mean the pattern on his tie is closer to my Lardini DB's!

"I will not impose any restrictions"

My fav quote. I'd say the only one who can pull that off is Fok but in his younger days he's probably like:

I don't think you should spend too much time trying to copy the exact cover, including expressions. That would be a futile and very time consuming task. Better to try to capture the look, or at least the essence of it. Mravinsky is almost always in tails on his covers, but Celi can be more relaxed during rehearsals...

I was thinking about the more arty covers:

(how I also feel when faced with his Brahms steamroller)

but you are right, maybe the expression can be captured without the composition.
Yes! Full Melania! Now where can I find a pith helmet...
