While we typically attempt to judge how an entire fit came together, the details are often what drive our interest and enjoyment in our clothing. There's beauty in the perfect knot, just the right amount of shirt cuff showing, patterns that play nicely together, freshly-shined shoes, a slightly curved collar, and a well-composed photo in a pretty place. This week's challenge is to show us an example of an individual detail that you feel came out just right and to give a brief explanation of what you like about it. Don't worry if you don't love your whole fit. I'd rather have more people participate even if it means entering a picture that doesn't necessarily all come together as long as something about the picture really speaks to you. Also, you don't need to use a photo from this week; just try not to use one that you've entered into a previous challenge. The Entries: @Claghorn - Image Lighting [IMG] @jcmeyer - Trouser "shiver" break [IMG] @Gerry Nelson - The way the boxes lined up on the pocket square [IMG] @EFV - "How the bottle green socks create contrast while being rather subtle in this context" [IMG] @RoSaCe - Warm, multi-color coordination [IMG] @SeamasterLux - Gold buttons with embedded colors that match the tie [IMG] [IMG]
@Billax - Yellow and shoe/belt buckle coordination [IMG]
@chocsosa - DB but no specified details, so your choice! [IMG] @pravda - "Perfect texture juxtaposition, the stripes in the shirt feel like braille" [IMG] @upr_crust - Coordination of tie and cufflinks [IMG] [IMG] @bienluienapris - Cut, shoulders, and shape of his $50 respoke suit [IMG] @DiplomaticTies - Orange. ("coordination of socks, tie, cufflinks and ps in different orange hues") [IMG]
@Coxsackie - matching a cravat "not only with one's jacket, but also one's hair, and even with the landscape" [IMG]
Here are a few examples of what I had in mind... A white square that displayed at just the right angle and shape... [IMG] A square/tie pairing that hit all the right color notes... [IMG] The difference unbuttoning the top button of the cardigan made... [IMG] The teardrop shape the tie knot made... [IMG] Shoes that match the carpet... [IMG] The perfect walking trouser break capture... [IMG]

Tempted to go with the Mother of Dimples

    But it's a little extreme.

Alternatively, there was the Divine Dimple,

    or the rare Knit Dimple
    [IMG]

But in the end, I need to do me. So I like the lighting in this picture

Ha! The shoes don't really match the carpet, but I guess at that low angle, they did reflect the color a bit.

Either way that pic/fit is one of my favorites of yours ever.

:nodding: Lighting makes a big difference.

Speaking of, I've always liked the effect that side lighting has on both ties and trousers due to the shadows it produces. In this fit from a couple weeks ago, the "shiver" of break on the right leg was my favorite part of the picture - and that detail was more prominent because of the dark-side-of-the-moon effect between the two sides of the crease.

BTW, I reserve the right to change my entry if I manage to find any time for new pics this week :D

This challenge is really going to expose all of us for the huge nerds we are... if that fact wasn't super obvious already.

I really like the lighting, the dimple and the little pop of colour from the square. What I like best is the way the fold of the square turned out with that little row of squares.

Maybe not the most noticeable thing in this picture, but I love how these bottle green socks create contrast while being rather subtle in this context. Please excuse my stupid facial expression, I will probably never feel comfortable in front of a camera.

Ha, it's like being a winner at the slot machine! One time a drakes square that I hardly ever wear came out looking like a grumpy fish. [IMG] Ok, so let me be sure I'm keeping track of everyone's chosen detail as we go - holler if I got it wrong:
    • Clags: Lighting
    • JC: Trouser shiver
    • GN: PS squares line-up
    • EFV: Green socks (or so he claims ;) )
    • Ro: Nothing specific stated so I'm going to assume "multi-way color matching" unless otherwise instructed
    • SL: Gold buttons
    Great entries so far!

I really like how the stripes in the buttons match the colors of the tie. Next level.
