One of my favourite movies is the relatively less well known Les Saveurs du Palais, which aside from a subject close to my heart, a warm tone seldom found in independent movies and a certain delicateness of touch and manners that does wonders to lift your spirit, also features the inimitable Jean d'Ormesson as the French President.

In part because of the influence of some of the rascals on this forum, my own style has evolved somewhat from the sparse, high contrast, textured aesthetic preferred by feu "Jean d'O" (which he toned down yet further for the movie), and of course I have neither the prerequisite ice blue gaze nor the charm and immense culture to pull it off; nevertheless in the next week and a half I can think of a couple occasions where a similar style will be appropriate. @Clouseau I am sure has many more and the advantage of the right background ;)

Getting the right pose may, however, prove trickier.

Did another one. I really enjoyed this outfit worn by sir Roger Moore, so I thought I’d try something similar.

Edit. If you can’t tell, I’m holding a porcelain goose.

Image result for Sean Connery in classic grey suit

Sean Connery: Early Bond years.

Did you know that in the late 80's-90's, Connery became a great fan Ermenegildo Zegna? This was during Zegna's rise as a prominent designer, prior to becoming a powerhouse label. While never being an official spokesman for the designer, Connery often spoke of his enjoyment of Zegna's clothing, particularly of his sport line.

For the vintage fans, and sparked by a recent (private) Vuarnet discussion: whilst @Clouseau will undoubtedly laugh at me for bringing it up, Alain Delon in La Motocyclette (1968) has been imitated by many members here over the years:

I came across this pic of Harrison Ford in the 70's (?) and just had to have that shirt. So, I went to RatioClothing.com and made one of their Highlands Sand Selvedge Chambray #MTM shirts out of Japanese selvedge chambray, two flap pockets, with a pen channel in my left breast pocket 'cause I actually use it. I dropped the epaulets (I'll leave those to uniformed service members and pilots) and did a small semi-spread collar for modernity. My jeans are my wife's least favorite bottoms I own, she say's they look like AC Slater pants form the 80's or 90's, but I like throwing random patches on them and keeping them around. They are actually 5+ year old (free) samples from my days designing at Gap, so is my belt. Ideally I'd really like a new narrower braided leather belt for this look, one long enough to tuck downward maybe? I think I nailed the look I was going for. Just need to update the jeans to something with a little more of a 70's wash.

Great entry. I personally think the shirt would’ve benefited from a longer collar similar to Fords, but each to his own.
Ford had some serious casual game back then. And it seems he’s kept to the theme.
Edit: Is that possibly the same shirt model he wears as Indy?

Haha I have 6/11 of those tears on my "Icon" inspiration board. Yeah, I have regretted the small semi-spread since getting it. No, I don't regret it. It is fine, but in retrospect I'd probably just do the classic semi-spread. Hey, when you find a menswear uniform that works, stick with it, I say!

I have always been a big fan of Sir Laurence Olivier. I especially enjoyed his portrayal of the smooth, urbane but deeply-troubled Lord Marchmain in Granada Television's very faithful 1981 adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.

Mrs Knightley found the lovely portrait below and I thought I would have a stab at trying to emulate the great man. The masses will determine the extent to which I succeeded.
