Chalk me up as another who only typically tends to wear white shirts with fairly smart suits. So I figured, instead of just rolling that out again, I might as well use the challenge to experiment with a white shirt in an odd-jacket outfit. I did cheat, however, and kept the look fairly formal:

I don't subscribe to the distaste for white shirts (solid or otherwise) in general. But I find them particularly best suited for lighter ties. Which is what drove my fit. [IMG] [IMG]

Appreciate the feedback. My view is it's a blank canvas; I've never really understood the notion of white being overly formal.

But more importantly, I can't see blue working with this tie.

i see a very light blue working. y u no think white shirt = formal?

also, a thick white oxford cloth would change that a lot. i think its the combo of it being white and very flat and shiny against all that rough wool and tweed that makes me think its a tad off. it all looks pretty tho.

In the spirit of my advice to DonCologne, I put together an odd-jacket combo. It appears, however, that DC has opted out of this week's challenge...

I understand where folks are coming from with white. I just don't think of it that way. Can't really say why. Again, I just view white as a blank canvas.

I take your point that the weave makes a big difference -- just as it would in any color. And I don't disagree that an oxford cloth would be better (and if I had one that wasn't button down -- I was intentionally trying a non-button collar with tweed, just to see if I liked it -- I'd have worn it), but that's texture, not color.

Relatedly, but also as to blue, I've tried this tie with my powder blue Finamore and it just doesn't work. The blues have a big old fist fight, and, as you say, the texture is off.

Anyway, not saying that I'm right or even that I have a prayer of a vote. Just my perspective.

Possibly. I'd be afraid of straying too close to pastels and "Easter" colors. But I may just try that. Thanks!

G - well, i cant argue with what white means to you. if thats how its strikes you, by all means, go with it. hell, i used to think that too until the forum wrecked my mind. foo would just say you are a peon and a fool and suck at clothing and you are wrong. i would not say that tho. i think a BD collar would work there btw.

Cleav - you will get one of my votes. or perhaps my only vote if its not multiple choice.
