Damn my Germanic inability to think of bending implicit rules! I haven't followed too many of these, but it never occurred to me that I could play Friday Challenge even if I wore the outfit on a Wednesday. Perhaps I'll play next week.

(I was sure to fulfill the mild profanity requirement for this post though.)

Clags, you may be History's Greatest Villain giving the hard three to everyone, but I must give you this: You sure do know how to throw a confusing as **** challenge.

(Pic Heavy) Submission to the Unstapled Challenge.

Summary of non-staple items:
Dark green w. burgundy window pane SC
Burgundy plaid shirt
Purple square knit tie*
Purple paisley PS*
Multi-color braided belt
Copper-ish trousers
Grey/brown/gold argyle socks
Dark brown Chelsea boots

*I know the tie/PS combination is too cereal box/matchy-matchy for SF, but I thought that since the spirit of the competition was to use no staples, I might as well take the next step and break an SF convention. It was deliberate, and if it hurts me, so be it.

i think that the following needs to be said, and i know i am taking a liberty saying this, so please correct me if i am wrong, clags.

first off, this is not directed specifically at any fits posted so far, just an observation i would like to make based off some of the comments thus far.

this goal here is not to post a peacock-ey outfit, or a rule breaking outfit, or an FU outfit, or a zany colors/materials outfit, or even a load outfit. the goal is to post a tasteful and pleasing fit, without using staple/highly common items. the goal is to accomplish, imo, that aside from knowing that we are in a challenge here, the fit would look as organic and put together as a fit made of staple items, just that it uses non staple items. and had the fit been posted in WAYWRN on any given day, it would not elicit any eye popping reactions.

now, that is just how i see it, and it could very well be that my own fit will not fall into my guidelines above. but that is what i think the idea is here, and it is what i tried to accomplish with my fit.

I better re-do my entire fit then...

I certainly agree with Stiches, and there's certainly one or two people here who seem to have (mis)interpreted this challenge as 'wear the worst tie you have'...

I agree with Stitchy 100%. But as always, all fits within the rules of the challenge qualify, and it will be for the voters to decide.

As for Flyingmonkey's observation, I wonder if some simply don't own any non-staple ties of note; if so, hopefully this challenge will encourage them to go visit Hober and see what they have to offer :slayer:

...but in the same vein, I wouldn't be surprised if someone took a Holdfastian approach to ties and pulled off something brilliant.

oh, i was not in any way telling people what to do, or how dress, or what to submit. that would be condescending and presumptuous. i was merely sharing what i (correctly /humblebrag) thought was your idea with the challenge.

Subject to an early morning audible, tomorrow's fit won't qualify on at least two levels. So the one posted earlier is my official entry. Just for sake of completeness, here it is again, spoikered:
