I agree. I was certainly not saying that all the fits were bad at all, most were perfectly acceptable, it's just that 'true elegance' for me is quite a high bar to set and I don't think anyone got there this time. It was a tough challenge, which I don't think I would have achieved either had I been able to take part.

The cut and fit of Vaux's suit was as usual almost flawless (he's one of the few of the real old guard still left here, and in addition he can probably afford to have it right every time), but I just didn't like the tie colour and felt it gave an impression of being a bit washed out. That's all. Really a matter of personal taste. It was the fit I put highest on my list in terms of elegance. Pingson did simple very well. I liked Butler's fit and TTO's too as it happened, although both were just a bit too showy for how I read this challenge, and several others too including Sugarbutch, who as I've said several times here is one of the most reliably solid dressers on the forum.

Although I'm not threatening to win, I think this is my best vote total to date. I'll take it.

With just over ten hours to go on the poll, Vaux_le_Vicomte is in the lead by three votes, with Butler a close second.
I'll be sending the Golden P.M. of victory to one of you soon.

I'm just amazed that a few brave souls voted for my fuschia shirt in an elegance challenge; I applaud their subversive nature. [IMG]

Good to see Vaux in the lead with such a great fit.

I would like to thank everyone for their votes, I feel honoured to have won this competition. Unfortunately I'm currently quite occupied by work and won't be able to host the upcoming contest. However, be it that Butler accepts, I would like to offer him the honourable task.

    Thank you
    Vaux

If you, or Butler , or the both of you would like to choose the theme I, and I can't believe I'm saying this, could be prevailed upon to run the thread again.
All I ask is that you participate by posting a fit on the Friday.

That's very gracious of you Vaux - and even more of TTO to offer his services, most helpful in fact considering this oldie's lack of computer skills!

My fist thought was to suggest a favourite of mine (and TTO's I think) :

I have a love for the waistcoat/trouser and odd coat combination (as opposed to the more often seen; odd waistcoat with a 2 piece suit) and would propose a challenge on these lines, to push members into trying something new? - However, I realize that probably very few have seasonable rigs of this nature, and thus it would be too restrictive.

Consequently, with summer upon us; I suggest a full linen suit challenge (as the recent challenge was for all things linen) that is: minimum 2 piece linen suit, 3 piece would be nice, wrinkled or not! :bigstar:

If this is to everyone's tastes( perhaps an amendment to 'the summer-suit' challenge ) I can try to get the new thread up by tomorrow?

I like the idea, I do not like that I don't own a linen suit...

It'd make for a much smaller contest.

Says the guy that hasn't competed once yet.
