My first time here, cross-posted from earlier WAYWRN Part III. Not expecting any votes, but thought I’d dip my toes in the water.

    From WAYWRN:

“First time uploading photos. Indeed, first time taking them. Inspired by the Friday Navy thread, but not part of it.
Apologies in advance for the poor quality of the photos. This is way harder than I thought. Help needed and hereby solicited. Also didn't have time to get the suit pressed.”

Finally, a truly sad last attempt to score extra blue points:

    Notes:
A couple quick comments. Everything here, with the exception of the shirt, I’ve had for a few years. But this is what I wore to work yesterday, which is when I took the pictures. Suit, tie, and pinstripes on the shirt are all navy. Socks are predominantly a sort of blueish-grey.

My wardrobe’s small by SF standards, so I didn’t have a lot to draw from for a monochrome challenge. I’m aware of the danger of having stripes in both tie and shirt, but hope that the slightly different scale, the different directions, and perhaps most importantly the different textures might make it acceptable here. Opinions are actively solicited, of course. Given the lack of colour variation, getting a variety of textures was the best I thought I could do, hence my choice of this particular tie (I’ve at least a half dozen navy ties of various sort, but this is the only grenadine). The suit itself is of heavy winter weight wool (probably around 12 oz.) with a softer finish (so there’s a bit of a nap to it).

Lastly, special and sincere thanks to InStiches who, as some of you may not be aware, has been kind enough to take the time to read other threads on the forum and invite people to participate in this one. I was inspired by the Friday challenge, but would have chickened out were it not for him. That’s very generous, and I’m sure I’m not the only forumite to appreciate it.

Thanks to all, and have a good weekend.

    Cheers,

    Ac

Wore this yesterday, but didn't have a chance to take a good photo that morning, so I took a crappy one with my closet mirror last night.

Sadly, my new phone, despite having a very high resolution camera, is horrible at image stabilization. So none of the close up shots turned out, but I thought I'd throw it up here anyway.

It seems like suits are the dominate direction being taken here. I wonder if it's a balance issue...with the top being largely monochrome, it may look a bit odd to have another color on the bottom.

I don't think I can recall another FC where some many entrants went with suits (except for those which required it).

Stitchy, you gonna publicize the vote on the other side? A few folks there provide some interesting insights on CM stuff (cyc wit it off the top of my head, but I know there are 3-4 others that are slipping my mind at the moment)

The full length photo didn't work out, so I'm not entering this. But I played along since it was a suit day and thought I'd post it up for fun.

Somebody should do a challenge on who wears that Hober tie best. Is there anyone who's been on SF for more than 6 months who doesn't have that tie?

I'm not in on many of these - are we seeing a larger number of entries here than usual? Cool to see to many takes on this theme.

That would actually be an interesting challenge.

As far as I know, that tie only got popular recently. It made on appearance a few years ago on the Hober thread, unworn. Then it didn't pop up for a while until I bought it. Then everyone got it. So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm responsible (tongue firmly in cheek). [IMG]

It's an amazingly beautiful tie. It's just hard to wear. I think I wear it least of all my Hobers.

I think I got mine a year and a half ago or so. I think it goes well with PoW check. What makes you say it's hard to wear? It's maybe not ideal for a blue blazer, which seems to be a favorite look of yours (not that I would argue with your preferences there).

The Fair and Kind Ruler of the Friday Challenge has spent a good deal of time doing missionary work in other, darker threads, leading people into the light of this one.

I was on the road to Damascus when he found me.

    Cheers,

Hmmm, I guess because the combination of a large scale weave and a multistripe, it feels a little busy. Had it been a single stripe (say brown) or fina rather than grossa, I think it would be a little easier to wear. I imagine it would work well with a rough gray flannel as well. I have a gray PoW with blue windowpane that I'm not a huge fan of, but I'll try it out and see how it feels.

I do love my blue jackets. [IMG]
