Yes, we get it that the French are a bunch of effeminate, smelly pricks.

Which makes it all the more embarassing that you let them come over and defeat you in the Battle of Hastings, and effectivley rule your country.

Its like that scene in Trainspotting where the scottish describe the English as Wankers, and say that makes it all the more embarassing that they were colonized by a bunch of Wankers.

Possibly, but we got our own back at Crecy and Agincourt.

And again at the Battle of the Nile, Copenhagen, Trafalgar and Waterloo.

Not hatred at all, just a little light banter. In fact, I would rather Paris had got the Olympics, and all the expense and hassle that goes with it.

I briefly heard that "sensitive language" had been used in the commentary of the battle's reenactment. Must have annoyed you to no end.

Tony Bliar's PC brigade decided that it would be insensitive to celebrate the British victory at Trafalgar by actually referring to it. In real terms this meant that a 'son et lumiÃ

re' sea battle reenactment was referred to as being between Red and Blue. Curiously, everyone knew it was really about Britain and France/Spain and so it didn't really annoy at all.

I couldn't go to the Fleet Review, but did have a splendid evening at a concert in the grounds of Burghley House - the 1812 Overture (with cannon), Rule Britannia, then fireworks and some rather good French champagne.

In light of all this criticism of the the British for celebrating a few victories over another nation, will you now be calling for the abolition of 4th July celebrations?

Whereas Paris would have been in a better position to host the olympics initially, I think London stands to gain more from it, long term.
