Here are a couple that I am using today:

Top is a Montblanc 136 with a 14C OB nib
Bottom is a second gen OMAS Extra Lucens from the 1930s

i just bought the shaeffer vm. i really like the compact size. the grip isnt the most comfortable and it's a little too short for my hand, but i love the nib and i love the casing and feel of it. it takes international size cartridges tho which are kind of small

Get a converter, They are like 3 bucks and now you can use bottled ink which... goodness is another can of excess purchases to open.

Its also cheaper per ounce to use bottled ink than cartridges.

yeah i looked into converters but it appeared that it either didnt fit in this pen or there was literally no information about it. i didnt want the hassle of buying something and having to mod it or return it

Naw a standard converter will work. Go to goulet pens and get you one for like $1.85

no for most shaeffer pens you need shaeffer proprietary cartridges, but the vfm uses international standard. only the standard convertors are apparently too small? i was reading that you had to mod the convertors because the barrel of the pen was too thick and also the cartridges wouldnt fit properly length wise

Aside from the 18k Waterman a family member gave me, I've also purchased a Lamy Swift and a Pilot metropolitan. All 3 are are great depending on the type of paper. The waterman is definitely the smoothest. My handwriting still blows.

Ive only just found this thread! I have a motley collection of Parker 51s - nothing rare or particularly mint, just working pens Ive bought at auction over the years. I tend to use Registrars iron gall ink with them which works is a lovely colour, to me. Interestingly its very similar to a traditional black leather dye as well

Do you ever run into problems using that ink in your P51s? I find aerometric and vacumatic pens are difficult to rinse out completely.
