Nice selection of inks, I ran through a whole bottle of Iroshizuku Asa-Gao a few years back and it was a really nice ink, silly expensive if you buy in North America. I'm on a very dark blue and blue black kick of late with Noodlers Navy, Blue Black, Art Brown's Manhattan Blue (still mourning the closing of that store) as well as Private Reserve Midnight Blues.

I actually didn't like the LAMY 2000 fountan pen that much. I mean, it's nice, and I like the rollerball, but I think I prefer a more classic appearance. So now I have to find other attractive pens in the 150-200 € price range. The Pelikan Souverän is on top of the list so far.

I really like the look and feel of the Souverän M800 in green. I do however write small-ish and thus, especially for Mathematics, a fine nib is important to me. The Pelikan F or EF (XF) are quite broad. So I decided to go for a Japanese fountain pen which usually have (far) finer nibs than Western fountain pens. I've just blind-ordered the Sailor 1911 Large (fine nib) from Japan. I hope I'll like it. I'm reasonably sure that I will.

Sadly, Japanese fountain pens hardly get sold in the EU--probably partially because some of Pilot's and Sailor's pens are very reminiscent of, for example, a MB 147, and especially in Germany, pupils start writing with a fountain pen in elementary school yet Sailor/Pilot/..., to my knowledge, don't offer elementary school-oriented fountain pens, thus the pupils get acquainted with Pelikan or LAMY and likely choose a pen from them in the future. That is, it's not worth to invest in the European market for Pilot & co.

The few shops that actually do sell Japanese pens (some in the UK) do so at ridiculous prices, so trying it out beforehand was impossible. Either way, even if I absolutely couldn't stand it, for whatever reason, I could easily sell it in Germany. I paid 135 € incl. shipment (likely +25€ taxes), which makes it 90 € less than a M800. If I ever get a M800, it'll be a medium or broad nib.

So, do you guys use cases for your pens? I got myself the Midor brass pen case today. As far as I can tell, it will fit my Sailor 1911 Large (plus protective cover), a LAMY AL-Star and a LAMY 2k rollerball.

So when I was in Japan I bought a bottle of Athena Ink. It is exclusively made for the Maruzen department store. I'm going to copy Fountain Pen Network's guide for a review and post it here if anyone is interested.

    Thread resurrection!

I recently realised that I need a nice pen to whip and take notes with, I have a basic black gel pen I use for that purpose, but its FAR from slick.

So I thrifted a black and gold Parker ballpoint pen and pencil set with leather pouch for £5.50 this lunch time. Why not, ey? They look identical to this...

    Thanks, maaan.
I used to use a cheapo one in school but that blew up on me, so I haven't used once since... But re-thinking that route for fancy pants writing.

I love Lamy's entry level. Cheap and do the job. (Sorry, I know it is not that exciting.)
