Forum slow at night? PST

I'm on PST, and I notice that it's been really slow near midnight on... What's going on?

The nightly backup. They are supposed to be getting back to me about how we can have that not slow down the site so much.

Definitely slow every night (since I joined, really). 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Eastern.

I've noticed it's like 1 - 3 PST...it's sad that I've noticed.

Eh, I just got followed home by two cops.....twice in one five-mile trip. Glad to be home.

Now on to my prime posting hours!

i noticed this too. whenever i am in bed i try to refresh the SF page on my blackberry and it just hangs at around 1130-1pm. my wife hates it that i check sf in bed.

Out of curiosity, what sort of backup method is being used? Is there some script running that just does a database dump, or is it more complex?

That's basically it, and despite having them renice the processes it still grinds the server pretty hard. The next alternative they've mentioned would be rather expensive, but I'm considering it. If anyone knows a magic way to do it better, I'm all ears!
