The difference is that Vettel's setbacks have been of his own making. Hamilton's DNF was just bad luck.

Supposedly Kimi was told at the Italian GP that he wasn't being retained for next year which would explain why Vettel tried to pass Kimi at the start since Kimi can ignore team orders now.

James Allen made a great comment that Vettel really ought to have just focused on keeping Hamilton behind him.

Like Hamilton did last year at Malayasia when Max overtook him. Lewis didn’t care that Max won as long as he gathered more points than Vettel.

Supposedly Kimi's contract says that if he gets pole position, he doesn't have to let Vettel through. (I believe I read this in the James Allen strategy review.)

It's looking pretty grim for Ocon, although there's a rumor that Red Bull may want him for Toro Rosso if he cuts ties with Mercedes (which Wolff said they'd do if that helps him stay in F1).

On the strength of his season so far in F2, I don't understand why McLaren is so keen to hang on to Lando Norris. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure why a team would take on a loaner driver like renault did this year. There is minimal to gain. Mercedes should take Ocon and drop Bottas if he’s so special.

Well, he would not be a loaner driver anymore...

I can't imagine Kimi will be at his best at Sauber. It would be hilarious if Marcus Ericsson outperforms him in 2019.

I'm not sure Ericsson is a lock for the second Sauber seat yet. I hope it goes to someone else...

If you'd told me in 2008 that Kimi would be back in F1 and one of those guys who will keep driving, even without a chance of wins or a championship, I would have said you were crazy.

Considering Longbow Finance backing Sauber also backs Ericsson, it’s pretty probable that he’s staying .

That's the thought, but I've read a fair amount suggesting that his position is a bit shaky. We'll know soon enough.

That Lewis Hamilton lap was insane for a track Mercedes was supposed to struggle on.

Vettel will need a Hamilton mistake or mechanical failure if this keeps up.
