I watched the Schumacher doc. It didn’t do much for me. Overall it was superficial, and I learned very little about him. They skipped over so much, particularly his struggles at Mercedes. There must be some interviews from that period in which he talks about it.

Agreed. It just seems like any standard documentary you may find on Schumi on YouTube.

It could have gone in more depth with the rivalries with Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen (did they even show the Spa overtake?), Montoya, Raikkonen and Alonso. So much potential content and unseen footage from those seasons.

For some reason I was hoping they would talk about the allegations of driving aids in 1994.

The Senna movie had more substance and narrative.

Fair. I think this is the only kind of documentary that gets done, though. A family that has been that private (did anyone even know what Corinna Schumacher sounds like before now) and puts so much into controlling their public persona - - they will only allow carefully “curated” topics about his life to make it to the final cut

And frankly, I'm OK with that. As fans and spectators, we don't have a right to access public figures. There is so much gotcha journalism and so many media outlets that have to be first [not accurate]. Why would anybody volunteer to participate or give unfettered access without some control over the finished product or message? Look no further than DTS manufactured drama, though I do enjoy the series. I enjoy seeing the inner workings of an F1 team and the machine that gets them from venue to venue.

but then again I can’t remember the last time Mercedes didn’t win there.
If y’all will permit me to quote myself, i want to go back to this. I just found out that no one but Mercedes has ever won the Russian GP. That’s wild.

I also enjoyed seeing some Wikipedia entry shenanigans:

It can be, but it has its pitfalls. I'm kind of blessed in that I grew up in Reno, and I saw how addictive it could be (same old retired guy at the same slot machine every time I went into the local Albertsons). When I've gone to Vegas with buddies, I have my daily loss limit, and I stick to it like glue. This is the first time that I've taken advantage of the sports book in Chicago.

Until, I found out I could bet F1, I was betting solely college football. My rules are start with a weekly hundred dollar nut....if you go down, bring it back up to a hundred....if you go up. build up your nut so that you're hopefully playing with a four or five hundred dollar nut by rivalry week and the championship game, but pull a little profit out as warranted. If you're down 500 for the season, walk away for the rest of the year. My goal is to, for the whole season, lose no more than I just shrug off and maybe win 1000-1500 (best case) which isn't life changing "buy that Chinese liver that I've had my eye on" but enough to get Daddy a new pair of Crockett & Jones for fun.

I still have the sterling silver Streamerica pen that I bought downstairs at Tiffany's in the Bellagio on a fifty dollar moneyline bet for Ohio State to beat Miami for the national championship.

That gives me nice memories because unusually for a Britisher I’ve been to Reno - back in the mid-80s. I remember that it calls itself ‘The Biggest Little City in the World’ and it did seem a bit like a city-state. It was very friendly and welcoming - and of course my English accent was popular there (as it was in SF).
I also enjoyed Lake Tahoe but my goodness the water was cold!
Overall I love the Silver State.

Lando wins pole. Hamilton is in 4th, and Mad Maxx at the back of the grid. Did I mention that I turn $20 into $520 if Lando wins tomorrow.

Suddenly I like your chances. Holy ****. Isn’t this supposed to be Valtteri’s track?

Definitely a Merc track, but it's well suited for the McLarens, and it's not a passing track. Obviously, anything can happen tomorrow, but I feel a lot better than if Hamilton was on pole and the McLarens were back in the third or fourth rows.

Just checked the revised odds. Lando has dropped from the 25:1 that I locked in on Tuesday to 2 1/2:1. Hamilton is still the favorite.

Fingers crossed for rain, Hamilton dropping it and some wet weather genius from Verstappen to get it onto the podium ?

Sainz pretty much said he's going balls out for Lando on the first two turns. If Lando can survive that and put some dirty air behind him, settle down and drive a clean race, I'm feeling pretty good. Maybe have Danny Ric do a Baron Nemo on Lewis.

If I sound anti-Hamilton I'm not, I just want him to finish his career in a different team (a bit like Vettel) Maybe In Red!!!

I do want another team (Red Bull) to win at least one championship in the current era other than Mercedes-Benz!!!

I want Lando/George to get a shot at a championship ASAP!!!

Finally I want to see if Verstappen matures into what I think he will with a world championship under his belt!!!

It’s essentially a long drag race from starting line to turn 2 so it will be carnage. Mclaren road cars are quicker than Ferraris, but what about their race cars?? :sly:
