“Well, Daddy said I could drive the vroom vroom, so when Seb comes over there won’t be one for Checo. Anyway, Checo was mean to me and wouldn’t let me go in front of him.”

If Perez doesn't get an F1 seat next year, I will be very disappointed.

Just shows how brutal and unfair F1 can be to a driver who is probably the best midfield driver for the last 5-6 years.

Indeed.

I was thinking yesterday, what options does he have? Couldn't came up with one quickly. Probably Hass if they let go one of their drivers.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one actively rooting against Stroll to win. He's currently 4th in the drivers standings. WTF!!??

I don't get the hate for Stroll. Yes, he's born rich and probably has his seat thanks to his dad but he's getting results, no? He's definitely not a bad driver and definitely does not make boneheaded mistakes (a la Vettel and Grosjean).

Sad to see Perez leave Racing Point although he really should have a better drive. His obvious next options are Alfa Romeo and Haas I guess. It does make me wonder why Renault elected for Alonso again. He hasn't won a race in 8 years and a championship in 16 (by 2021). I always find it bizarre when teams try to live in the past (a la McLaren Honda, Williams Renault that both ended in medicority at best).

I have to say I wasn't rooting for him to win either but just becuase I was rooting for Carlos haha.

Yup, although those are, I think, steps back. Yes, will keep him in F1 but I think than farther than ever from a top tier team.

I think "probably" can be removed from Stroll having a seat. Hes not a bad driver, but he wouldnt have one of the 20 seats in F1 without his dad's money. It will be very interesting to see how Vettel and Stroll pilot the cars next year and the delta between them. Checo Perez, while kind of a dick, is a much better driver and will likely end up at Haas.

Stroll's performances to date show him to be a generally competent driver, but relatively mediocre. He's racy, but qualifies poorly and makes too many mistakes for a driver with his experience. There's little doubt that the team at RP would have chosen to keep Checo to pair with Seb if they didn't have to factor in daddy's preference. There are always drivers whose backing puts the thumb on the scale for them, but this goes beyond that.

Checo is a safe pair of hands, but I won't be sad if this is his last year. He's had a long run, and, ironically, his own financial backing kept him in at FI/RP over Ocon.

I truly hope that Gene Haas gets bored and sells his entry to someone who actually wants to race in F1. Haas' entire approach sucks and gets the results you would expect. They are effectively a race operations provider who put a Lego car made by Dallara and Ferrari on track every fortnight.

It's funny how people don't like Grosjean and rightly so, but the guy has 10 podiums to his name.

Better than most low to mid-tier drivers. If not the most without a win with the current drivers?

Grosjean does things like crashing under the safety car. His peaks are high, but he's not consistent. That said, I thought the witch hunt after the Spa crash was disgusting. The FIA basically let the other drivers bully him into a suspension which might have altered the course of his career.

And, back to Stroll: Hulkenberg came back cold and was within a few tenths after 12 laps. And then outqualified him on the second attempt. That's why people resent Stroll's presence on the grid.

Soooooo...does anyone else see any passing opportunities at Mugello? Because I sure don't.

I saw the Mercedes onboard around the track. It’s nothing but 5G corner after corner.

I saw a number of spins and offs during practice, so we may see some surprises. But then I also saw a video of Merc basically going flat out with no throttle lift through 4 or 5 corners. Or as Mercedes calls them "bendy straights"...

Just in case no one knew, Hamilton is on pole.
