That's basically what they're doing. McLaren didn't say for the rest of the season they're going to back him. I'm pretty sure if Lando crashes out or Maxipad wins in the next 2-3 races, then McLaren isn't going to support him anymore.
They need to be explicit about it. He needs to beat Verstappen by just under 8 points every weekend from here until the end. If he hasn’t done that (or needs Piastri in order to do that) in each of the next two races, then let it go.

Too little and about 3 races too late. Monza was the race where Max’s WDC championship lead became unassailable. And Max didn’t even have to do anything that week to get there.

If Max wins by 11 points or fewer, then we will be able to blame McLaren’s approach so far.

Poor Lando.

Slightly unrelated, but Haggerty/Henry catchpole just put out a great video about the venerable late 90's Ford/M-Sport WRC car. Look at this young motorsports executive before he became an F1 legend via DTS.

Catchpole gets to hammer a MK1 Focus WRC car on some fantastic roads in Wales.

I believe I have been consistent in my assertion that Lando is overrated. Not a hack by any means, but far from the phenom he's made out to be.

But, let's talk about FRANCO COLAPINTO! Logan Sargeant's entire F1 career transcended by a single qualifying session.

I kind of agree, until Lando, Russell and LeClerc prove they can dominate a la Max and Hamilton I am sick of hearing how great they are. I think tomorrow will be a true test for Lando, if Max, during the previous 2 years, or Lewis, when he was dominating, were in the same position it wouldn't will they be in contention for a podium or win from 17th, it would be how long into the race before they are.

The McLaren team orders decision also presumes that they will have a decisive car advantage over Red Bull. It seems more likely to me that Monza was an outlier.

Pretty good recovery drive by lando to finish ahead of maxipad. Not sure wtf happened to Sainz but it looks like he hit something or his car broke causing him to suddenly veer left into checo

Consider me underwhelmed by Norris. He’s got the best car on the grid, bar none. If you gave that car to Hamilton in his prime, or Max right now, you could start them from the back of the grid and they would still come out on top.
