Lando isn’t championship material. McLaren was right in telling him to move over last weekend

I'm tending to agree. Giving up spots on the start every single week is not the way to win races much less championships. Add on that he never once made a serious run at Max. I seriously wonder if he was scared of Max running him off the road again.

As for his consistent poor starts, I have to wonder if it's psychological at this point. Like the old Dodgers second baseman who all of a sudden couldn't throw the ball to first base.

Piastri has that edge that Lando has never seemingly found.

And now George is DQ’d for being below minimum weight! Lewis is P1
That's got to be crushing. On the other hand, it could go a long way to explaining why those tires lasted so long.

Who was the reporting competitor?

“The car was weighed again on the FIA inside and outside scales and the weight was 796.5 kg. The calibration of the outside and inside scales was confirmed and witnessed by the competitor.

As this is 1.5 kg below the minimum weight requested in TR Article 4.1, which also has to be respected at all times during the competition, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.”

After being referred to the stewards, it was confirmed that Russell had been disqualified from the race.?"

1.5kg? I doubt that it made a material difference on the tires.

They ffed up the fuel calc.
Hadn't read yet that it was that small of a weight. You're right in that wasn't going to meaningfully affect tire wear.

1.5 kg is way off the mark. If it was like .1 kg or something then you could say it was a mistake. Teams don’t mess up their weight calculation that badly.

It’s typically 10kg for .3 of a lap so you’re looking at .04 or .05 per lap. Over a race distance that’s about 2 seconds.

The car was weighed dry so fuel didn’t factor into it.

I think they meant that Mercedes personnel witnessed the weighing.

1.5kg amounts to real race time, and depending on where the weight would have been, it could affect car balance. Both affect tire life. But George deserves credit for pushing to move to the one-stop and executing it to perfection.

This is a bit of karmic rebalancing for Lewis, though, making up for the stolen 2008 Spa win.

Looks like Sainz signs with Williams for two years. Hopefully, it's a stopgap until Audi picks him up? Otherwise, it's a bit anticlimactic.

Audi is hot garbage right now but at least they're not Alpine. Supposedly the Williams contract has an out for Sainz in case RB or Mercedes comes calling.

Whatley to Audi as team principal is an interesting development. I wonder whether Binotto was behind this or Audi was working on them in parallel.

Big rumor is that RBR was about to drop Perez but Liberty Media stepped in and asked RBR to keep Perez because of how important he is to the Mexico GP. If the Mexico GP happened earlier in the year, he'd be gone.

They should be working to get Pato O’Ward into F1 instead of shoring up the career of the utterly washed Perez.
