Montezemolo is the biggest asshat in F1. He continually goes on about how F1 wouldn't be F1 without Ferrari, but the reality is that Ferrari benefits from the presence of McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes, Renault. Without F1, Ferrari is just an Italian branding exercise for FIAT's unreliable rich-guy toys which catch fire and burn to the ground. And they ain't that pretty anymore, either.

The FIA need to call his bluff. Besides, he will be the loudest voice shilling Ferrari's hybrid road cars' connection to the pinnacle of motorsport. Seriously, fuck that guy.

Really? you thought hed go on and f1 would cease to exist? HE shouldn't have come back. He used up a good seat for 3 years. IT was nice to see the red helmet in a not red car though. Especially with the schizo helmet designs most drivers have now

I don't think it was a good seat. Mercedes vacillated from uncompetitive to unreliable since Schumacher returned. It's a wonder they convinced any a top driver to join them given they haven't really made any progress in multiple seasons.

Actually, I have to agree with the helmet part. Modern helmet designs are idiotic looking.

Vettel is probably the worst offender with his designs that change every week but he's not alone. You cant even identify a driver by his helmet anymore, the designs are so uselessly intricate. From a distance, you can only make out bold shapes.

Best helmets? I think Senna will always have that one. I liked Damon Hill's helmet. Hamilton's is great but even he started fucking with it recently. Mansell and Coultard's were nice. Hakkinen as well.

The modern drivers are pretty naive to thing we can tell subtle differences via TV, get off it.

I've never cared for Lewis' helmet, but the others you mention are great. I also liked Rubens

it's easy to say in hindsight. considering BRAWN GP won the driver's championship at the helm of Ross Brawn, why wouldn't Schumacher be lured by what was seemingly a 'championship winning car' and his good old faithful technical director?

sure, he didn't win any grand prixs, but he hadn't lost much of his edge in racing. his current car has been stupidly unreliable. i would have liked to see him race for a couple more seasons.

It's an excellent seat if you can't get in a Red Bull, Ferrari or McLaren. There are a lot of promising drivers that would rather drive for them than Force India or Sauber (particularly if you like being paid a salary and not have to bring sponsorship to a team).

I'd say Michael's lack of direction post retirement was more of an attraction back to F1 than racing for a Mercedes team that won a championship in another guise. Obviously working with Ross Brawn again would be attractive but he's no fool. I think he'd know the underlying reasons why that team won the championship in 2009.
