Indeed. I doubt you will see the Merc that far behind all season. Ferrari is flattering to deceive, and the media will try and deny the gap.

Ferrari better have some incredible race pace, otherwise Merc will slowly but surely pull ahead.

What a stupid penalty. Why is this even a rule?

Otherwise a great race, though.

First 3 races have actually been pretty good compared to the last few years.

Bottas getting 3rd is still a little disappointing when he couldn't keep up with Vettel and then Lewis.

Also will McLaren even beat Sauber this year in the constructors standings?

Regardless, he broke it. It wasn't enough anyway.

Yeah, I started to have a little hope that maybe we had an intrateam battle, but forget it. Bottas lacks race pace. He was holding up the field early, and it turns out it definitely wasn't tactical. Bottas got humbled. The intrateam battle is definitely over. Couldn't convert a 5 second penalty into a position?

The room after the race was again sad. Hamilton is an asshole unless he wins, Bottas looked career defeated, and Vettel wanted to chat up his win, but nobody wanted to engage him. That waiting room is gold, but it's bad for F1 PR, seeing their drivers act like sad little prunes is poor marketing for the sport.

Great championship battle developing. Unfortunately we move to that **** track in Russia and have to watch Putin shake hands.

Bottas is a career #2. He'll be lucky to win a race this year.

Nico could pass as a potential #1. If Bottas is your #1 then your team isn't winning a WCC.

Are you really suggesting people who lose a race should be high fiving the winner? I think the mood made sense. Lewis messed up with the penalty and probably cost himself a real chance for fighting Vettel for the win at the end. Bottas knows he blew it. Vettel can smell and is tasting Mercedes blood. How is that bad F1 PR?

Hope for Bottas' sake he recovers this season so he can move on to a solid spot at another major team. Don't think he can do much more with his career with Toto Wolff as his manager - the man did get him quite far so hats off, but Bottas needs an independent manager after this season.

I must say he never convincingly shook off Massa last season which should've been a cause for worry.

We should get this renamed the F1 Alternative Facts Discussion.

Bottas raced from behind the 8 ball: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/129028/generator-failure-hurt-bottas-race

I'm not ready to write him off. Nico did almost all of his winning with a serious car advantage, essentially needing to beat only Hamilton on most occasions.

The Hamilton penalty may or may not have cost him the win, but it certainly cost him a chance to fight for it. In any case, I think he actually fucked himself at the first corner by being too conservative. He clearly took a "discretion is the better part of valor" approach and braked early instead of fighting Vettel for the corner. Perhaps he thought he had sufficient race pace to get it back, but I wonder if he'll regret not going for it later this season.

I was happy to see that Sainz was penalized for that ridiculous collision.

Ricciardo needs to find another gear to deal with the whippersnapper. What he's doing so far this year does not appear to be working.

Bottas outqualified the 2 world champions at his 3rd attempt in a frontline car

That's better than I expected

I think he will do OK

Sainz trying to say Stroll turned into him was lulz worthy. Stroll was like 40 meters ahead and braking and turning on the racing line. Sainz just drove straight through him expecting Stroll to let him pass.

It doesn't make Sainz's driving any better, but the design of the pit exit is ridiculous.

Bottas had a tire pressure issue, ok, but he didn't have one after his first stop. His pace never really improved. Kimi always seems to have phantom oversteer and understeer problems when he has no pace. Maybe its a Finland thing?

Kimi had a mystery PU problem in China. Next race it'll be a mystery tire problem.

I like Kimi and want him to win.....but his constant whining for the last 2 years is getting annoying.
