We all know that black is for business, and brown is for farmer, but what of the oxblood? Traditionally speaking, is burgundy more or less formal than brown?

Clothing determines formality. It just happens that the most formal clothing is black/white and thus lend itself to Black Shoes.

So to go which color shoes determines formality is going at it backwards.

For shoes it is more about things like Lace/Slipon, Balmoral, Captoe, Medallion, etc. that determines formality.

I always thought Oxblood was a bit more versatile than brown or black.

The inane prejudice against black shoes espoused by some members of this forum is boring.

I find myself wearing burgundy 80% of the time. Goes great with grey and navy suits.
