Are pearl buttons considered as acceptable as studs when worn with a tux? I recently ran across a Canali formal shirt that was pleated with a covered placket. I was also surprised to see this look from Turnbull & Asser's site:

Also, can we use texturized white-on-white fabrics, like stripes and herringbones in lieu of pleated and marcella fabrics - like this shirt from Paul Stuart? I like the idea of a dress shirt that I can also wear with a dinner jacket and bow-tie, but I'm not how acceptable it is.

Thanks, that covers the stud/button question.

Any thoughts on substituting a textured white on white stripe for a pleated shirt? I'm thinking of what would work with an odd dinner jacket with a shawl collar if that helps.

You could do it but it would look very modern (i.e. not classic) to me. For a very casual situation, sure, if you like the shirt. I probably wouldn't.

That's how I roll. And not an eyebrow was raised from the good people at Charvet when the request was made.. Pleated shirts make my skin crawl.
