The classics that work for me are Stans, Gats, and Purcells. I used to rock Clydes and Chucks when I was younger but they are maybe too casual for most of my clothes now. I'd love to find a luxe version of the Adidas Country.Inspired by the @shopcanoeclub podcast, here are my top 10 (sneakers only, but feel free to mix it up)
In no particular order:
1) Nike Air Force Ones (lows)
2) Vans Classic Slip ons
3) Converse Chuck Taylor high tops
4) New Balance 990 (I like v1s best)
5) Adidas Stan Smith
6) Vans Sk8-His
7) Jordan 1s
8) Visvim FBT
9) Adidas Shelltoes
10) Going to keep this open, because I'm sure I've forgotten something important. I want to same Nike Air Max for now.
I’d forgotten about German Army Trainers. Like everyone else, I have a few pair of Margiela ones, but find the the rounded, narrower sole meant that I rolled my ankle more, so I wear them less than say, Chuck or Vans slip on inspired shoes. The classics that work for me are Stans, Gats, and Purcells. My Consortium aniline leather Rod Lavers are much more comfortable than my Stan Smiths. Not sure if they are still available though. The new (last decade) RLs are stiff as a board. I prefer the silhouette to the SS, but they were not comfortable at all.
Not a bad take on the Stan Smith silhouette. Not sure that I love the branding though. To me, it's eye catching but without the natural lines of, say, the Nike swoosh, or the ostentiably functional Puma formstrip, nor the simplicity of the iconic three stripes. While I wait for my Beckett and Simonon GATs to arrive sometime in June I ordered these Cariumas to scratch the white sneaker itch. Really impressed with the quality of the shoes upon initial exam, and the packaging has nice little touches as well. I ordered the vintage white suede and leath View attachment 1946067 View attachment 1946069 View attachment 1946071 View attachment 1946073 er to avoid super bright shoes. They're a nice middle ground without skewing too cream/ivory. Hope they wear as nice as they look.
Solid point. They did tuck it in nicely with the lines of the shoe and they have other less prominent colorways but your observation stands. These are meant as a segue from zero white shoes in my closet to the GATs on order. For sub $100 they did a decent job. Hope everyone is off to a nice week. I like them on Clark’s wallabies and chukkas, but on classic sneakers, I think that I prefer white cup or vulcanized soles, it’s true.I do like the look....but just can never get into "gummed" soles.
