no pocket on the sole quasi-custom shirt i got from lands end.

i did lands end because i needed a white french cuff shirt with no pocket quickly - it worked out fairly well, except that i wish that the collar band was slightly taller and collar points were correspondingly longer. adjustments to collar dimensions was not one of the options offered, although they do offer different collar types.

Pockets are there for a reason.
Yes, a dress shirt looks nicer with out, but if you need a place for your glasses, work ID, etc. then by all means. get the shirt with a pocket. It can always be removed with out much difficulty.

The London standard is no pockets-- actually, it used to be the Brooks Brothers standard also.

For me, it is sometimes yes, most often no.

I'll usually use pockets on shirts that are least likely to be worn with a suit. Oxford cloth, other "sportier" patterns that could be worn with a tie but that I probably wouldn't bring to a serious meeting. Those are the ones most likely to wind up under a V-neck sweater, and I do like a receptacle for parking tickets, subway pass, and the like. Also, there is something pleasing about a well-designed pocket that provides a little balance to a shirt.
