Just returned last weekend from a decadent shopping trip to Rome, and I scored BIG TIME :)

Below I will give you guys and impression on the retail prices in Rome on high end stuff we like so much here on the forum (and so you are not misguided on some inflated prices on ebay). I will also list the prices I saw during the January SALDI (ongoing up to February 13 I believe).

Shirts:

Barba Napoli Retail € 118 - 140, during sales 30% discounted
Borrelli Napoli Retail € 180 lowest price l saw up to generally around € 200/220 price level
Kiton Retail € 260 and a little higher, 35% discount during sale

Suits:
Borrelli Retail € 1,800 - € 2,300 discounts 35% up to 50% (so around € 1K)
Kiton Retail € 2,800 - € 5K, discounted to € 1,300 - € 2,600 during sales
Cesare Attolini Retail (average) € 2,600, disocunts during sale 40%
Sartorio Napoli (2nd line Kiton) Retail around € 1,800 - € 2K, discounts 35% to 50%
Sartoria Partenopea Napoli Retail around € 1,750, discounted to around € 1K during sales

Sportscoats:
Borrelli Retail € 1160 - 1,200 (for a navy blue cashmere one), during sales € 680 - €780
Cesare Attolini Retail € 1,600, during sales 35% discounted
Stile Latino (2nd line Attolini) Retail € 1,200 (steel blue 100% washed cashmere), 35% discount
Sartoria Partenopea Napoli Retail€ 900 - € 11,00, 35% discount during sales

For those wondering, yes I did well for myself (!), amongst others, Borrelli 100% cashmere sweaters for 30% of retail, Borrelli shoes (made by SM) and some small stuff.

I was surprised that even in Rome Brunello Cucinelli was ridiculously expensive, with 30% discounts prices still well north of € 1,400 for jackets.

Those discounts seem pretty modest compared to the sales in the US and UK. Lots of similar stuff between 50-75% off in NYC and London.

Looks like the crisis hasn't hit Italy. Either that or they don't know it.

This is striking. Some of the retail prices are even higher than in Germany, let alone the sales prices.
