Hello. I have an interview coming up for college. I finally got to pick up my first suit, from H&M , medium dark gray. I have a silk tie thats solid midnight blue and is about 1.5 inches wide. Would this be okay to wear? Im 6'3", 36 chest, so I think it fits my body type. Or should I go with one thats a bit wider?

Thanks

I am still looking for one thats 2.5-3", but I figured since it's an art/design school, maybe theyre more 'open' about attire? Lol. Ill just play it safe and wear a wider one.

While on the subject, Im enjoy mixing colors in my wardrobe, but in this particular setting - college interview, what shirt would go best with a dark red striped tie, dark gray suit, and black shoes? White made me feel like a politician..

Well, a 1.5 inch tie will be great if you want to be the best-dressed candidate for The Class of 1986!

I guess we are about due for another round of skinny ties being in fashion happens about once every quarter century! I saw this trailer for this new Anthony Hopkins movie and noticed that Ryan Gosling is wearing pretty thin ties in it (also looks like he sports a three-piece or two...plays ahotshot Assistant DA)

I wonder if this was a conscious choice of the costumer designer or if Gosling is very tall and the knots are knotted high on the narrow end of the tie? And if it is the former, are we in for skinny ties (I hope "knot").

Is this art graduate school where the faculty from the school will be doing the interview or undergrad where someone from admissions will be doing the interview? If it's the former, I'd say you should wear whatever you like. Academics and particularly art professors are quite relaxed with respects to the rules of dressing.
