I was completely wrong about RVP. I thought it was a mistake for United to buy him. i thought he would be injured all the time and at best be duplicative. but here we are more than a year later, and without him they would be in real trouble. wft do I know.

bizarre to hear the home side chanting "U DONT KNOW WOT UR DOING" to Arsene. Loudly. A bit early for that?

La Liga has started, Barcelona is raping. In other news, there's war in middle east.

Barça w/ pure decimation of Levante. Madrid struggling against Betis.

Watching the Madrid / Al-Saad Raúl Testimonial. Announcers saying that Madrid is already printing and making available in the Bernabéu Tienda Bale #11 shirts. Looks like the deal is done.

Also, fantastic to see Raúl back in a white #7 shirt. Scored the only goal of the first 1/2. When he switched sides at the half, made a very public demonstration of giving the captains armband to Casillas. Oh, you Madrid subplots...

Bale transaction is falling apart now because Chelsea hijacked the Willian deal from Spurs in the last 24 hours. Willian is getting his medical at Chelsea today.

This is payback for Levy jerking Chelsea around on the Modric deal.

Why would Bale -> Madrid be affected by Willian going to Chelsea instead? Aren't Spurs still targeting Lamela as well?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ea-try-to-hijack-Tottenhams-Willian-move.html

Reports had suggested that Bale would finalise his £93 million transfer on Friday afternoon. But it is understood that Spurs are unwilling to sanction Bale's move until they have signed at least one new player to fill the Welshman's position.

Tottenham looked to be favourites to sign Willian, whose best position is the number 10 role that Bale operated in last season, but Chelsea have now entered the race for the Anzhi Makhachkala player. Chelsea contacted Anzhi late on Thursday evening to lodge a bid of £32 million, which was accepted.

Willian is a good player but not a vital signing and would only add to an attacking MF that is already stacked. It looks like Chelsea r trolling both Spurs and RM in one swoop. It isn't a done deal until it is on the CFC website, so who knows. Moses would lose the most playing time if this happens.

Chelsea could really use a close-control striker who can finish, for times when teams bunker or are just simply well organized and in the way. None of the current strikers fit this mold, which is why the Rooney bids were not 100% trolling.

Lukaku is a beast but his fine ball control isn't there yet.

Torres is now an attacking MF linking up and moving to give others space (when it works). He is our false 9.

Ba is...leaving if Chelsea get another striker. Eto'o is a possiblity.

Another bid for Bale report Spurs. Fake? Upping the ante? Or if genuine who is bidding?

Call it "go negative" or just "conservative" if you like. Jose was after a point and got it. Hardest game of the year out of the way, a decent result for Chelsea.

People are bashing Jose today, but the burden was on United to play more aggressively since they were at home. They didn't do that. Moyes was conservative (although less so than Jose), so he got no reward. This was never going to be a shootout.

Rooney looked like he had a point to prove, but no one else was especially remarkable. Lots of errant passes. That won't be the case in a few weeks.

I was surprised at Jose setting up like that. Conservative if you like. Thing is should he have gone there and gone at United and won then the message sent is huge. Jose back with a bang! United in trouble! Moyes in turmoil! Etc etc i get your point but consider it a missed opportunity for Jose.

I thought Celtic did well in the battle to get to CL proper. Still second rate but atmosphere and momentum ran with them.

I like to see them in the CL because they do create a great atmosphere for home games.
