Matt published a great post yesterday over at TITC, showing off his new Ambrosi trousers. I really liked it, but thought there were some really interesting rules being broken. Namely, here was a shorter man wearing big cuffs and a slight break. Moreover, it was surprising to see him wear pleats, given how slim he is. I thought it would be make for a good opportunity to Foof Foo, if you will, and start a discussion on whether these rules about breaks, cuffs, and pleats are a bit overstated. Or has Matt just lost his way and need to report to the Forvm Covncil? Let us discuss.

I find the whole thing strange looking in either case.

I prefer the cuffs, and the realistic creasing/stacking.

The right to wear that sweatshirt actually costs $40,000 x 4 years. The only proper thing to wear with $160,000 sweatshirts are bespoke Ambrosi trousers.

Why does the sweatshirt declare its color in big bold letters? I suppose it's to help the color blind, but surely the font size could be smaller?!

I like wearing sweatshirts from other universities for kicks. I usually grab them for < $20 on sale

why the hell would you make the pants no break? seems a terrible idea.

i'd keep the pants exactly as they are, just change the sweater for something not ugly.

I like the pre-altered pants better. But I don't think the pants look good with a sweatshirt. Flannel or not, they just look too formal for that. I would go with chinos (also, I'd cringe sitting on grass with pants that expensive.)

I have a similar pair from HY, and to be honest despite the fact that light gray flannel seems to be an SF staple, I find them hard to pair things with. Too much contrast with my sports coats, and when I wear them without a coat I look way too... white overall (most of my dress shirts are are white, light blue or a patterned version of those two colors.) And like I said, too formal for things like sweat shirts or tees.
