I prefer the cuffs, and the realistic creasing/stacking.
have a similar pair from HY, and to be honest despite the fact that light gray flannel seems to be an SF staple, I find them hard to pair things with. Too much contrast with my sports coats, and when I wear them without a coat I look way too... white overall (most of my dress shirts are are white, light blue or a patterned version of those two colors.) And like I said, too formal for things like sweat shirts or tees.
I don't see what too much contrast would mean if your sports coats are basic navys or browns. I wear gray flannel pants quite often and it goes with almost everything I have.
The new pants look like sweatpants.
Might work better with a collared shirt under that sweater.
+1, but more like a polo. The sweater in itself looks too casual for flannel pants. As someone else said, maybe it'd look better with chinos, but the purpose of Foo's blog post was to show the pants, so I'd say a polo or dress shirt and a less casual (v neck) wool pullover. Anyway, Foo himself implied he didn't bother choosing the top, so we shouldn't give much thought to it.
yes, i know the notion of distinguishing btwn 'dress' pants and 'casual' pants is repugnant, but i can't believe anyone going for a picnic in central park would choose to wear their new $XXX ($800
