I will be starting a new job soon that requires me to wake up around 5:30-6am and be in the office by 7, 7:30am. What foods and combinations of foods would you recommend that would give me a boost of energy with minimal fuss in the morning but I am ok with fuss if it is worth the trouble.

Also, for lunch. I want high energy foods again. I don't want to have that lull in the afternoon from eating the wrong stuff.

I am looking for real food, not energy bars, etc.

As for snacks, again, I want to skip the processed foods.

Not really a recommendation, but here's usually what I eat:

Breakfast: 1 hard boiled egg, toast with jam and a big glass of apple or orange juice.
Lunch: toasted turkey/beef/tuna sandwich with multigrain bread and 1/4 avocado. Plus 2 servings of fruit (usually 2 fuji apples, sometimes mandarines, nectarines, grapes.)
I keep 2 trail mix bars on hand in case I needed something to eat late afternoon.

That seem to keep me going for the day ok. But I cheat a bit because I have a long black (the coffee!) mid-mornings as routine, though I am switching to green tea.

That is me getting about 5-6hrs sleep every night. On the rare days that I do get proper sleep, I pretty much don't need the coffee and just go for a walk come time to pop down to the cafe.

Don't see anything special about the situation as stated. If you have a physically demanding job, the answer would be different that if you sit at a desk all day. The generic question is what should someone eat for breakfast and lunch. Don't over-estimate the need for high-energy foods which tend to be calorie dense.

This is so person-to-person dependent, it's hard to say. For example, I typically just have a cup of black coffee and I'm good to go. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Bowl of oatmeal with a banana mashed and thrown in (or some raisins)?
2. A slice (or two) of whole wheat bread with almond butter and/or low sugar jam?

Get to sleep by 10 and you'll have lots of energy for the whole day.

I would say first get as much sleep as you can

avoid too many carbs

coffee is ok, don't add to much crap into it though, keep fruit with you and snacks like a non-***** cheese etc. drink water, green tea is good too.

Coffee is not bad for you... plenty of professional and amateur athletes drink it without any ill effects to health or performance
