I think you're just trying to minimize trips to Costco.

Anyway, too monochromatic for my taste -- but fit and texture is great.

No, that's a function of desire, persistence, and decadence. Notice, that all things--personal vices included--can be made to serve style, except for collecting.

I like the more subdued blues in the second picture. Maybe I'm boring. :D

Foo, for an all blue ensemble, I think the brilliant blue tie would work better with a darker suit or that shade of suit would work better with a darker tie.

Beyond that, I am just not crazy about the tie, not really that into brilliant blues unless they are truly light for spring.

The brilliant blue elevates the outfit, to my mind. It adds brightness and light. Without it, he'd look like the anonymous GQ-blog Italian businessman, whose outfit is painfully flat and one-dimensional.

No, there would still be contrast. More contrast, in fact. Either brilliant blue and dark suit, or LTN suit and dark tie. Not dark-dark.

    Not that I dislike dark-dark.

He could have gone with a dark tie, yes. Just like he could have gone with polished brown calfskin shoes. What he did was more challenging, and equally in balance. Of course, I understand you disagree on that second part. But then, this is not the "Manton-approved" thread, so I expect a healthy dose of disagreement coming from your end!

Generally, I hate dark-dark, or light-light. I like to see the range filled.

Leave aside my personal dislike of brilliant blue ties, I disagree that what is depicted is more balanced than what I suggested.

Dark-dark is rarely my preference but I do like it from time to time. All blue is strictly a daytime look for me and it does have certain connotations. In europe = Italian businessman as you say, over here it says "museum curator who must fundraise constantly among the upper class."

But I do like a dark suit, white shirt and dark tie for night time. Black tie with a blue suit, blue tie with a gray suit. Blue tie with blue suit is also OK. Looks very sharp IMO. Blue shirts at night are not how I roll unless I am leaving work for something and don't care. But if I am dressing to go out, i wear a white shirt.

^^^ Bill's outfit is very nice and something I could easily imagine wearing yesterday or tomorrow. I have almost all the equivalent components and have put them together similarly quite frequently. It is far better than GQ-blog Italian Businessman.

However, Timotune's outfit is still a step above. Bill's outfit does not reach the same high notes.

If I were going out at night and had the opportunity to dress for the occasion, I would also opt for a white shirt. However, I would probably pick a lighter colored tie, something with a woven pattern in light grey or silver. Dark suit, white shirt, and dark tie looks too funereal and Reservoir Dogs for my comfort.
