1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Again, I'd recommend that one of the mods make the surcharge rule more clear in the rules. No amendments have been made since my other post, and predictably, many have unknowingly violated the rules.

Honestly, who reads the fine print on the PayPal terms of use? This sentence is too ambiguous:

However, members should also know that it is within the PayPal terms of service to charge 4% for handling for all forms of payment. You just can't be charging the rate for PayPal only.

Honestly, it's not our responsibility to explain the ToS of Paypal to our users. When you use B&S, or Paypal, you have accepted the ToS, and are responsible for your actions on the site. Here is a good general guideline - you should not treat Paypal differently than another method of payment. Geez, guys, really? I'm not going to do any more handholding.

You may, but unless you are going to say "100% of the proceeds of all my sales are going to charity", you are unlikely to find a sympathetic ear.

True, but I think it would be pragmatic to explicitly mention the 4% surcharge rule.

Everyone seems to get the personal payment rule. It's mentioned explictly in your sticky.

The bulk of the offenders seem to have violated the surcharge rule. Inevitably, new members will join and they won't have time to read this thread.

    Just my 2 cents.

I understand this. However, for example, you write: "I accept payment through Paypal; please add a 4% handling fee", without mentioning any other form of payment, they would take this as a contravention of their ToS. They are quite strict about this, and if you try to use the argument you just proposed, you'd probably not even get an answer. People at Paypal didn't make tons and tons of money by being that gullible.

Bottom line - just don't try funny wording to get that extra 4% or whatever, it's really not worth it, and we are not going to get ourselves into trouble because you think that you are clever.

I just noticed that B&S is no longer available to me, and reading this thread, I see i was banned. I assume that this was from my recent bump of an old listing, since I cannot even access my post to see what my violation was. I have followed this thread and am very aware of all the rules, so I make no excuses for my error. i'm guessing I may have left an inappropriate Paypal reference in there, which was a standard practice, but I did know better, and should have checked my listing before bumping it. I guess I'll never know...

My sincere apologies to you Fok; I actually totally support this policy.

Thanks to all that have bought or sold me some great items over the last couple of years.

Not trying to be clever here. Taking the argument directly from PayPal. I did my due dilegence after this thread was created:

Honest question - why, if you knew better, did you decide to break the rules in the first place? Why, if you have been following this thread, did you not go check your B&S threads immediately? Honestly intrigued, especially since I wrote, just yesterday, that I would be doing a dragnet today.

I know man. But if you offer no other form of payment other than Paypal...

Sigh. Not even sure why I bother arguing, but just to say that I've seen stores have their ability to process credit cards rescinded for the same or less.
