In burgundy (my favorite, very classic):
The veblen (wine color analogous to burgundy) appears to be full grain but is thicker than the other two. It is not touted as calfskin. The brown soles throw me off the look, personally. I am expecting something more traditional (black dressed welt and sole-edge). Zoomed pictures of the leather seem to indicate that it is not vat dyed (dye does not penetrate 100% through the leather).
The Cromwell appears to be full grain, fairly thin leather with the claim to being calf. Edges of the leather zoomed in make it seem almost like these are properly vat dyed (but I could be wrong). I can only pick on the slightly squared-off toe, otherwise these look pretty nice. Any experience with how the leather takes polish?
The kenmoor looks plasticy and the internet opines that it is corrected grain. That is too bad, I would love this shoe if made of the same leather as the cromwell.
So the new company (from mid 2000's) is making decent shoes at that price point but isn't making "the" shoe that I would buy for full price. Which is a shame because they already have all the "parts," ie the cromwell leather and kenmoor construction, they just haven't put them together yet. Any thoughts, recommendations, or dissenting opinions?
