I've owned that particular model on two separate occasions and it is unequivocally shell cordovan.

I've been speaking with Tom Florsheim about the issue. He said those branded as shell cordovan are indeed shell cordovan sourced from Horween. They did not include Horween stamps until approximately 9 months ago, so those shoes in shell without a stamp are somewhat old (which explains the lack of richness to the leather). There is a "finish" on the leather which should not crack and he described as specifically not like paint. He said it was made with the cooperation of Horween.

This certainly doesn't change the quality of the boots sitting in my apartment, but I do appreciate his responsiveness.

Thanks for sharing the insight with us. Honestly I am still not convinced. I smell a little bit of cover-ups. Like when they said there is a “Finish” . Never hard of a Finish on cordovan. And how will they explain why 2 pairs of same model number completely different ? and also how about the flaking paint ?
I have emailed gilt with pictures and waiting for a reply.

finishing is common. it's only when it's shoddy that's a problem.

Of course. I was responding to the poster who acted like it was unheard of to apply a post tanning finnish.

Thanks for the info. Sorry I wasn’t aware of it. You learn something everyday !! I guess I never seen a shell cordovan with such finish that stands out that much !!

So it sounds like your burgundy longwings and NAMOR's smooth black are indeed shell, just with a poor finish, due to whatever reason?

appears to be the case. I tried bending the leather and compared it to calfskin and the creasing was consistent with what you see in shell. I am still unsure because if the paint may be covering up whatever is underneath.

I think MYHABIT is selling Duckie Brown for Florsheim on Monday. So we'll have lots more to talk about then!

    Isn't MYHABIT run by Amazon?

I doubt myhabit will sell the cordos. 2/3 weeks ago myhabit had Florsheim on sale. They had the worst models of all florsheim.
If they have the cordo boots on sale at under $300 may pick up a pair.

    Which code?
