Anyone know how to tell the different types of floating canvases in suits? I know there are some craps ones going around. How can you determine if you have good canvas or bad.

I usually snipped open the inside lining (the Bemberg lining) and examine the canvass.

Better canvasses are made of horsehair/wool/linen and held together with some sap from the Aeginatus Rumanata tree, which also has a very distinctive smell (good smell)

first of all a canvas does not float. its anchored very firmly and only flexes with the wool of the coat front. really and truly it does not float.
there two category of canvas they are [canvas] and [half canvas].
when we say canvas we mean the canvas extends from the shoulder to the bottom of the coat.
when we say half canvas we mean the canvas extends from the shoulder to about half way down.
there is no rule or law that governs the quality of workmanship.
no way for a beginner to judge except by reputation. but then years ago...
i had a basic striped down ford that served me for 10 years i only bought a battery and tires.
my neighbor across the street had Mercedes that cost him more than twice the purchase
price in service work.
