Guys, I would like to have a couple flannel suits made up. The thought of an old school cream colored flannel really intrigues me. I would also like a light grey, and perhaps an olive. Any recommendations for a fabric source and/or a tailor to do the job? I would like to keep this at $1,500 per suit maximum. Thanks.

I had mine made out of grey Minnis woolen flannel. I like it a lot, but then, I'm no flannel afficionado. I saw some Fox woolen flannel at Venanzi that made me feel a little jealous; it had more pronounced mottling.

Your price range rules out a lot of options. Probably your best bet is going to be Chan, using their stock H&S flannel. Even then, the price might exceed $1,500.

For Minnis, Smith, Lesser, etc. the cloth alone is going to cost at least $500.

If you do MTM you cold get a better flannel of course but I agere that bespoke at $1500 would be tough.

There's been some lovely Vitale Barberis flannel the last couple of seasons but again you'd need to go MTM.

As a point of reference, seven months ago, Chan quoted me a price of $2,439US for a 2-piece suit in the H&S Victory Flannel.

Ouch. But isn't that the 140s with mink? Maybe the other stuff is cheaper.

Of course, I always get Viceroy and Victory confused.

I think the $2,439 price includes a suit.

Yes, I get that. But the base price for a Chan suit is about $1200, no?

I am not up to date any more.

In any case, it would be crazy if Chan were charging more for H&S than (say) the US distributor charges for Lesser Golden Bale, but who knows.

I dunno either. That price sounds wonky. Minnis and Fox don't cost nearly that much of a premium, do they? I don't think I paid anything above base price for my Minnis flannel suit.

Prices are different in Europe because there is (by and large) do distributor mark-up, hence firms can include more cloth at the basic price level.

That said, Minnis tends not to be so expensive, same with Fox.

The OP mentioned "old school cream colored"- I'd just add that that's going to be hard to find unless I am missing something. cream, white/light flannels other than gray are pretty scarce. London Lounge is taking last call on a not-quite white flannel this week.

What's your opinion of Fox's flannel versus Minnis? What I've seen makes me jealous.
