Hmm. Well, I had a waist that size when I was 16, and I wore grey flannels for school. They exist. Find out where private schools in your city send kids to get their uniforms.

I have the same issue with pants so if there is a specific type/style I'm looking for, I just hunt down a 30 and have a tailor take it in a couple of inches. Any decent tailor can take it in from the back or the sides; however, the latter does cost a little more.

Paul Stuart, RL, and BB usually carry flannel. If you don't mind sacrificing quality, BR Heritage typically carries those types of fabrics (and their pants even go down to 29) and are dirt cheap when they go on sale.

You can also try designers such as Band of Outsiders, Billy Reed, etc. that have slimmer cuts but their retail prices are usually out of my price range.

Banana Republic sells 28 waist flannel pants. I own some. You are not a freak for a 28 waist either. Pride yourself on not being a fatass with the waistline the size of a cow like the rest of America.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
