Flannel Neckties? What's wrong with them?

Whenever I bring them up on any of these sorts of forums, I tend to get some replies that seem to say, "ugh, why."

Is there some negative aspect of them that I am unaware of?

Are they anachronistic, like Fedora Lounge stuff? Are they considered "cheap?" Are they considered proletarian?

I'm just trying to understand the basis for the negative responses. Because, the ones I've got, I really dig the colors and patterns on them, and their textural contrast with the rest of my articles seems, at least to me, visually interesting. The only ties I've got that appeal to me as much or more are my knit silk and my woven silk - printed/smooth silk just doesn't do much of anything for me.

Just trying to up my sartorial IQ. Thanks for your help.

I haven't heard anything but about a flannel tie , unless the pattern or size was odd. Perfect ties for winter and fall with tweeds and sportcoats.

I don't know specifically what you mean by "flannel" but wool and cashmere ties are fall/winter classics.

Based on what you wrote, you have good style and appreciate these ties for all the right reasons, so enjoy and let the philistines say "ugh."

If we are talking about wool ties, they are great in the cooler months with tweeds.

I've heard of flannel sheets and flannel pyjamas, but never of flannel neckties.

I do, however, love ties made from wool and cashmere.
I have a few in plain colours (charcoal gray, navy, mauve) and a few patterned ones.
Brooks Brothers seems to make excellent wool ties, particularly if you can get them at sale prices.

Yes. I only wear mine in fall/winter.
