    i like the middle road
of course i'd like to be able to wear $2000 suits
    i'd also like a brad pitt-like body
but both are a little out of reach for me at the moment

i lost 40lbs and 2 inches around the waist last year through proper diet and exercise
i also joined styleforum and started learning and rebuilding my wardrobe
so i like being in moderately good shape and wearing $400-700 suits and looking pretty good while doing it

(of course it's subjective... some may say that i am not in good shape at all... and/or that i do not look pretty good in my suits)

    btw
if you keep touting the benefit of a gym membership as the key to a better body..
without addressing the more important issue of a proper diet
then whatever you say will not be taken seriously

Can you say a few words about Jenny Craig? What's she really like?

To be fair, OP has included measurements. For the sake of transparency, he might want to indicate where his fat rolls are.

This is EXACTLY what I was saying, think about how you feel now vs. then. YOU wear the clothes instead of the other way around, and most importantly, you look good to you. I was using "hitting the gym" more as a metaphor for living a healthy lifestyle BTW.

You really think you see that many overweight posters here?

The overweight members don't post as much. Knowing full well that they will not be as well received.

The OPs style of writing may not be very compelling.....but his message is spot on.

Keep your weight under control. If it's not then get busy and get it there.

Once there get at least moderate exercise.

Live longer, be happier. DO IT!

Bodyfat isn't as determinative of one's attractiveness in the modern suit as is basic dimensions- shoulders significantly wider than hips, and the chest needs to stick out more than the stomach... plenty of guys with high bodyfat that can maintain those dimensions, and plenty low bodyfat guys with poor posture and narrow shoulders can't.

Ideally speaking, they go together. That is, a healthy lifestyle and a great sense of style. One without the other would present serious flaws aesthetically. I suppose the exception is when you happen to be incredibly fit and stark naked.

Personally, I enjoy going to the gym. Often it's a bit of a struggle getting myself to go, but I'm always glad I went. I find that I need to push myself to do more cardio, and ease back a little on the weights, so as to avoid developing the kind of build that would just be too difficult to fit. Perhaps others are that way as well.

Clearly, fitness is good for everyone, but in reality, it's difficult for many men, particularly as they get older.

While there is certainly something to be said for physical activity, and certainly, someone with good body image will probably exude more confidence, all other things being equal, being fat certainly does not exclude someone from wanting to, and dressing well, and looking good. There is a fundamental logical fallacy in your OP.

OP, before you slam me, I'm about to go do my usual 90-100 minute daily workout, and yes, I can do F. Corbera's double digit weighted pullups (though these days, I'm doing most of them unweighted due to ageing joints.) There are not too many very recent pictures of me on the forum, but there are older ones, and my build is not that different from those.

I feel miserable when I don't go to the gym or engage in some vigorous activity each day. I look forward to working out.

They are called Pieces of Eight. Get it straight, man. If we meet, I'll lift you up, male figure skater style, in the most macho way possible.

While there are some physical attributes you can do nothing about there are others you can. If you really want to look your best you should change those things you can for the better. After joining StyleForum I realized that even my best fitting clothes were disappointing, mostly due to my gut. So I started doing some basic calisthenics three times a week. I've always been pretty good about eating healthy foods but I made an effort to cut down on carbs and things are better now. I'll never look like a Greek god but I feel better and think I look a little better too.
