Fit/size difference between Chuck Taylor high-top and low-cut

Hi everybody,

I usually hang out on the 'other' subforum, so apologies if I'm asking something that's been posted a thousand times before, but I couldn't find an answer when I searched:

Quite a while ago, I bought some low-cut Converse Chuck Taylors in size 44.5 (the biggest size I could find) but ended up not being able to wear them much because they fit too tightly. Whilst the length was OK, the sneakers were too narrow and just not comfortable; a real shame for me because I love the style.

Today I tried on a pair of high-top chucks in the same size and, to my astonishment, they are much roomier, fitting pretty much perfectly. I bought them and upon getting home I put them next to the old low-cuts. The difference in width is actually visibly obvious - the high-tops are a wider shoe.

Obviously I'm happy now to have some chucks that fit me, but am wondering - is this normal? Do I need to ignore the low-cuts in future and only look at high-tops in my size?

Nope, other than the high-top it's just the same - but clearly wider/roomier...

Some manufacturing irregularities, may be?

I guess this is the most likely explanation if it's not a known issue among the good folks here. I just hope it's the too-tight ones that are the anomaly...

I have 2 pair of high tops and 3 low tops. I've noticed differences in fit amongst all of them. Not a big difference but enough to be noticeable.

Same here. Also the leather/suede pairs have a thicker insole.

Sounds like you really need to try before you buy with these then - at least I know now not to order online!

Thanks for the responses guys.
