Fit of leather jacket

I just eBay bought this Japanese market Schott leather jacket, and am wondering what I think of the fit. Apparently, Japanese market jackets are cut a little differently. This is my first ever leather jacket and if something else would fit better I'll just sell it and get another.

Could anyone share their observations of the fit? Any and all comments/criticisms greatly appreciated.

Fit is a little loose for cafe racer. But, you're certainly not the first person to have a cafe racer that is a bit loose . The question is - what is it YOU want? Different style jackets are designed to fit differently. Do you want a tight fitting or looser fitting jacket?

Thanks for your input. I guess it's fairly evenly a little oversized across the board? The sleeves seem like they are almost too short, however, or is that just me?

I guess ye old Beckham in a moto about right to me. Do you think perhaps one size down would get me there, or is it likely you need to go custom to achieve such a good fit. To my eye Beckham's looks perfectly formed to his body yet not tight at all, whereas mine might be a bit too large everywhere except the sleeve length?

Well, David isn't buying off the rack or off ebay. The sleeve length on yours looks fine to me - yes shorter than the image, but not poorly. The length of the jacket on you looks fine. It's just a little roomy for the style. If you want form fitting than you're going to want MTM. You can work with a company like Aero (I'm sure there are others) to create a jacket that fits perfectly. But, if you want that tight fit you're not going to get it by just buying a ready made jacket - especially getting the proper sleeve length and jacket length and jacket circumference - body types are just too different.

Barring plunking for a custom Aero, if you were me, would you keep this jacket or sell and get one size down (i.e. A 38 instead of a 40)? I mean given an ideal of what you see on Beckham.

Of course, the right way to do things is go into store and try then buy. I don't have that option, however, living where I do. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

In your position I would try to find out for that particular jacket - if you size down would jacket length or sleeve length change. If the answer is no then sizing down would work. If the answer is - yes they would change, I wouldn't do it.

Sleeve length and body length look fine. Overall fit is good, not much too wide, you probably have room for wearing a jumper.

Beckham’s jacket looks different, because a different model, made from horse hide, which drapes differently. It seems to be a mtm jacket by Thedi Leather. With a Japanese or European market Schott you will not be able to archive this look.

I like the OP's fit. Caution with downsize--Schott was in the shoulder and bell-like at the waist, OTR. It is a bizarre fit as my shoulder to waist drop is not that extreme. Aviator shearling though, not racer. The company had no explanation or fix though they were kind and responsive. I would have returned it but it was a gift form my wife. Another brand next time. Best.

Actually Beckham is wearing a Belstaff jacket on this photo, but still...
