Fit Check of Brook's Brothers 1818 and Suit Supply Sienna

I am considering purchasing either a Brook's Brothers 1818 or Suit Supply Sienna and wanted some advice on fit, construction quality, etc. I have very broad shoulders which always make getting an OTR suit a pain. Basically I usually fit into a 48 Regular or 50 Small.

I slightly preferred the fabric on the Brook's Brother suit and the more slimming cut of the Suit Supply. The Brook's Brothers pants were way too large on me and will need to be taken in considerably. The pictures I took of the Brook's Brother suit are not in as good a light. The Suit Supply Jacket is very similar to a blazer I already own so it is less versatile. I would consider the Suit Supply custom option but I don't think I have time to wait for it.

I can get the Brook's Brothers suit for 40% off and before tailoring will come to around $750. The Suit Supply suit is around $699 before tailoring.

Both jackets will need the cuffs brought up and the chest slightly opened up. Both pants will need extensive tailoring.

Which fit do you think is better? Are they both not good?

Which is likely to have better construction?

The Suit Supply wrinkling/folder along the lapel is a tell-tale sign that the coat is too small for you across the chest. I also don't like the length on it - in general, Suit Supply tends to orbit around the 00s' skinny and short aesthetic, which is fine for the world of 38L fashion models, but not for folks with your body type.

The BB doesn't sit great around the neck - the coat should really sit and hang around your neck like a saddle does on a horse's back. But the center vent sits clean, and the coat hangs better. The BB shoulders look a little erect from the rear profile.

So, I have the BB in the lead, but it isn't a home run. Also, I am a little apprehensive on the BB's pattern - if you need one classic suit, you want navy or charcoal while this BB appears to be a check

Thanks for the advice.

Do you think taking out the SS jacket around the chest/torso would be okay? It is interesting that you don't like the length of it. They fitted me in a 50S which is the short version. In general I think I have a long torso so the fitting selection surprised me. What aspect do you not like from the length? I was most worried for the SS about the creases from the collar to the underarm on the back. They seemed weird to me.

I am a little worried about the BB neck and even more about the shoulders. I don't like how the arms have a dent as they exit the shoulder.

The BB is a check. I don't regularly wear suits but have other Navy, etc. blazers. I kind of like the check as it added something more interesting than a solid. I can see your apprehension with regards to the pattern.

I also tried a SS Napoli cut (shown below). I didn't like the Navy fabric as I thought it was too dark. The same back creasing shows up here.

Thanks for the advice. I am a little worried about the BB neck and even more about the shoulders. In some ways I thought the shoulders of the SS were better but that is somewhat the structure of the shoulders.

The BB is a check. I don't regularly wear suits but have other Navy, etc. blazers.

What model is the BB1818? Madison or Regent? The Madison may be more forgiving on a bigger frame but depending on your proportions the Regent may work as a slightly trimmer option.

I believe it was the "Madison" cut. I don't think they had any "Regent" cuts in my size at the store.

Of all of the SS cuts, the Napoli will be the best for you because it is cut more generously across the shoulders and chest. The photos are actually not too bad IMO. You are going to be a tough fit OTR because of your barrel chest, so nothing will fit perfectly. I don't like the collar gap on the BB Madison.

I got a chance to stop by a different Brook's Brothers today and try on the 48R Regent cut. In the photos below are two different fabric options: a light blue (too shiny for my taste in person though it came out okay in the photos) and a navy check.

What do you think of this cut instead of the Madison or the Suit Supply? I think the upper back would need to be opened up a bit for sure.

I might be a little late on chiming in on this, but in my humble opinion the Brook's Brother's 1818 looks pretty good for your build. Suit Supply is more fashion forward versus BB's more classic look. I think that the Brooks Brothers suit flatters your frame and build much more than the one from Suit Supply.
