Fit Advice?

Hey folks,

I was wondering if you could tell me how this jacket fits, and whether or not I should get it a size bigger and just get the arm length shortened?

I'm primarily concerned with how it buttons on my right side (there's a bit of a bend), but the rest of it fits OK for me.

Any tips? Size up? Any other comments regarding what I should do to alter either way?

Apologize for not being able to rotate the pic (and mess). I've tried many ways and it still shows up sideways.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming! So I should keep the size, while shortening the sleeves and perhaps the overall length of the jacket?

How would I get rid of that crease? Or is that something I'll just have to live with?

Edit: I understand the sleeves are long, but wouldn't shortening the length of the coat make it look like a dress almost?

Do you want a barely past your waist coat, a mid-thigh coat, or a bathrobe-to-your-shins coat? Make your selection and then decide if this one matches.

That crease is probably from how it was folded.

if you intend to wear it with shirt+pullover or with a thick pullover or as an overcoat then I think size is all right (I would shorten sleeves, as veremund said)

if you wear it with a thin t-shirt I have my doubts. I prefer p-coats to fit a bit tighter

Cousin Donuts: I like the length of it personally. It's the first long-length coat that I've had-- baby steps!

Can you elaborate on what you meant by how it was folded? Is there any way to fix it?

Juan: Actually I don't think I'd be able to tighten it by shrinking down a size, as it's already the smallest. Actually my arm movement is extremely limited. I'm not familiar with thick coats such as this-- is it possible to tighten it up by taking it to a tailor?

Sleeves too long is the main problem but decent pictures would have helped. Surely you can improve in Windows Picture Viewer?

Hi GBR,

I think it was in large part due to the lighting in my room. I'll get better pics and have someone take them of me later in better lighting, front and back.

Folded in the store, folded at the warehouse, folded in a box in transit from warehouse to store. Dunno. Iron or steam it.

This jacket was probably designed to be worn over a suit jacket or sport coat, so I don't think you can judge the sleeve length based on wearing it over a t-shirt. I'd rather my hands be warm than worry if it is an inch too long.

CousinDonuts: Ahhh, I thought you were using a term related to the fabrication process. Actually seems to only crease when I button it up- if the button was actually a little bit further in, there would be no crease...Maybe I should press it and see if that helps, but it doesn't look like it will be. It's not too big of a deal then?

Also after checking: It seems I've underestimated the space left in my coat- I tried on a suit jacket and it fit fine. So long as I don't wear wool on wool I will be able to fit one in just fine. Again, I'll re-post pictures with proper attire next time around to estimate the fit, but the length of my suit jacket seems about 1/4" too short (which isn't a big deal for me).

With my arms fully extended, I can make out about half of my watch. Seems a teensy bit too long but I don't know if it will be too big of an issue to wear until I am able to find a tailor and set it up proper. Maybe after I'm all set up a better picture will be had.

Alright, better pictures as promised, and any feedback would be appreciated.

I should note that I purchased XS, and I'd be moving up to S.

Excuse the awkward poses and I'd not wear white socks with the rest of my outfit (laziness factor).

ok, in my opinion, as somebody already said, that looks like a coat made to be used as overcoat. I think it would look better and make more sense if you wear it in winter with a shirt, jacket, scarf and then the coat. That's what I would do.

Thanks for the feedback friends. I'll get the sleeves tailored maybe 3/4"-1".

I definitely have more space than I originally suspected. Shirt and extra coat in there would fit well (that's my suit jacket inside).

Also definitely going to be used as a nice warm winter coat. I'll be breaking this bad boy in soon.
