Howdy, styleforumists -

I am searching for a budget blazer that can work at professional meetings (I'm a biologist, and we tend to be a low key, ill-fitted group), that can add a hint of style when I'm traveling, and is comfortable to move around in (in case I have to do some sudden biology).

I have this knit, deconstructed jacket (J. Campbell?) as a candidate, and would love some input on its potential. I'm not overly thrilled about the material, but it is pretty movable and I think I won't be too sad when I snag it on a tree somewhere. The sleeves are over long (folded in this picture nearer to where I think they could end up), but I am more concerned about the waist and shoulders. I'm lopsided, which doesn't help. Any thoughts? I'm happy to get alterations, but figure I can keep shopping if the economics end up not making sense. I should add that I am probably always going to be well within off-the-rack territory with this quest; I can live with that limitation, just want to do the best I can within it. I asked some local friends, but they were just confused when I mentioned "collar gap". Thanks in advance for your time!

Fit looks good to me on the torso but are the sleeves a little bunched up due to a longer sleeve (that is also bunching) and the a t-shirt underneath? If the sleeves fell a bit looser I think it would be spot on.

Never a fan of grey + denim since the white in the denim picks out the white in the grey and makes it look washed out. Darker, solid jeans and a lighter shirt would do you right.

The jacket shoulders look lousy from the back. One shoulder is higher than the other. A tailor can help compensate for that, though perhaps a physical therapist should be consulted. Other than that, the fit is okay.
